Scholarships are available for Ventura Housing Authority program participants

Ventura, CA — The Housing Authority of the City of San Buenaventura (HACSB) is pleased to share that it is still accepting applications for its Annual Scholarship program. The HACSB is looking to award up to six scholarships. Up to three scholarships, for $1,000, for applicants pursuing their education at community college and or vocational/ trade school, and up to three scholarships, for $2,000 for applicants pursuing a degree at a 4-year university.

The HACSB’s Annual Scholarship program began in 2015. The HACSB established this program because it recognized it played a role in supporting families to achieve their educational aspirations.  Since then, the HACSB has awarded 35 scholarships worth $53 thousand. Vickie Chavez, a former recipient of the scholarship said, “Receiving the HACSB scholarship changed the trajectory of my academic career. I gained the confidence to pursue my academic goals and opportunities I thought were outside of my reach. With this scholarship, I was able to earn my undergraduate degree, study abroad, and pursue a graduate degree.”

The scholarship program is exclusively for residents and Section 8 voucher holders of the Housing Authority of the City of San Buenaventura. The application closes on June 29, 2023. For questions about the scholarship program, please contact mmartinez@hacityventura.org.

To support the Annual Scholarship program, the HACSB, through one of its nonprofit affiliates, established the “Haunted Housing Run”. The yearly Halloween themed 5k supports the HACSB’s Annual Scholarship program; 100% of the proceeds go to the Annual Scholarship program. The run is professionally timed, and all participants receive participatory medals.
